We've been incredibly busy at OMG! PC Games, and therefore, are a little behind on the latest news, but it appears that there has been several updates regarding the latest in the id Software's hit franchise, Doom 4. As Doom 4 was not shown at Quakecon this year, it was up to John Carmack to have a word with EuroGamer , regarding their latest project. John Carmack stated (see below) that Doom 4 will look three times better than their other game, RAGE, this is due to the fact that Doom 4 will be locked at 30FPS on consoles, while PC systems will be able to get FPS towards 60, and computers will be much more advanced by the time of release. Carmack later said clarified his comments, adding that the PC would have advanced so much by the time Doom 4 comes out that while the game will be 30fps locked on console, it could be 60fps or higher on PC, so "PC will be able to crow a bit over the consoles again". Check out the rest of the article here. Further news surrounding Doom 4, is that the game will not be entitled Doom 4, but instead, that will be in the subtitle. This is due to the fact that Doom 4 will not be a continuation of the Doom 3 storyline - which has a few of us feeling a little bewildered. Surely a continuation of the Doom 3 storyline would be a remake of Doom 2? Nothing yet is set in concrete, so no judgements can be passed yet. Why did they decide to make this move? Part of the reason is that the fourth Doom game will not be a continuation of the storyline for Doom III, according to Willits. Doom III was basically a "reimagining" of the first Doom game's storyline (a la the revamped Battlestar Galactica). So willl the fourth Doom game be a continuation of, say, Doom II's Earth invasion? Willits wasn't giving up any story ideas yet. You can view this article here.
